Community members were concerned about the process which Montgomery County would use to make a decision regarding a site for a bus depot. Pointing out that when people showed up about a recommendation for the use of the site on Westmore Avenue at a Planning Board meeting, $12 million had already been spent to purchase the property before a decision was made on the appropriateness of the site.
The community wants to make sure a process of accountability and transparency occurs. Members of the Carver Coalition were present to lend support and one commented on the process, “Let’s face it, if logic had anything to do with choosing a site, we wouldn’t be here.”
When Montgomery County Councilman Sidney Katz spoke, he emphasized that there currently was not a plan. The County Council is expecting the County Executive, Isiah Leggett, to bring a plan to them soon. After explaining that in the past interim plans had been brought before the County Council twice asking for a Declaration of No Further Need and the County Council responded “no”, Katz stated that until there was a permanent plan, they could say “no”.
